Lackey, Joseph Michael of Birmingham, Alabama, born May 20, 1952, died Thursday May 16, 2024, just shy of age 72. He was a wonderful husband, friend and loved life. He enjoyed each day of his life because it was a gift from our Heavenly Father. He is survived by his wife of fifty years, Cleo Speegle Lackey. Mike was a graduate of Woodlawn High School and Samford University. He retired from KPS Group Architectural Firm. He was a member of Shades Mountain Baptist Church. He was a lifetime member of the National Corvette Museum Bowling Green. He was also a member of George Washington Mount Vernon Association.
Mike is survived by cousins Tammy Allmond (Tim) and Margaret Davis (Harold) of Fayette; cousin Tara Motte(Jacque) of Birmingham. Surviving cousins also include cousins Paul Franklin Pilato (Jerry) and Joe Pilato of Maryland and Cassie Ayers of California. Mike was preceded in death by his parents Renee Ayers Lackey and Joseph Moore Lackey, his Uncle Jimmy Neal Ayers of Colorado and cousin Gary James Hulsey and his wife Phyllis Farr Hulsey of Birmingham and two aunts Peg Pilato(Jake) and Gussie Ayers (James). Mike was preceded in death of grand parents Mack Eugene Lackey Sr. (Edna Ledger) and Pauline Ayers and husband Virgil. Uncle Mack Eugene Lackey Jr.
Each Mack Eugene were talented musicians and could play any instrument. Cousin Jody cut records with the RamRods and Bobby Goldsboro. Jam sessions were always ongoing, so Mike loved all types of music from Christian to Pop to Opera to Hard Rock. Mike is survived by two wonderful brother-in laws, Alan and Wayne Speegle, a fantastic sister-in-law Bess Speegle and nephews Chad Speegle and Cris Speegle(Lisa). Lisa is the amazing pet whisperer. Preceded in death is Mike’s Sister-in-law Donna Speegle who’s walk with the Lord inspired us and Jon Paul Speegle walking with God in Heaven with his smile and such adventure for life. Brittany makes all of us remember each day is fun so enjoy it. Mike, being an only child, loved being around nieces Lisa Whittington (Wilson) of Trussville and Laurie Morrison (Jeff) of Trussville and all the great-nieces and great-nephews Hayden, Porter, Laura, Mary Grace, Samantha, Caroline, Jon Lem, and Elisabeth.

A visitation for Mike will be held at Ridout's Valley Chapel, 1800 Oxmoor Road, Homewood, AL 35209 on Wednesday, May 22, 2024 beginning at 10:00 AM with the funeral service following at 11:00 AM. Burial will be at Forest Hill Cemetery following the service.
